Description

The nRF24L01+PA+LNA is a 2.4GHz wireless data modem that is capable of transmitting data over a distance of up to 1100 meters (3600 feet) under optimal conditions. It is a low-cost, low-power device that operates in the 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) band and is equipped with a power amplifier (PA) and a low-noise amplifier (LNA) to enhance its performance. The device uses the 2-wire SPI interface for communication with the host microcontroller, such as the Arduino or Raspberry Pi, and supports data rates of up to 2Mbps. The nRF24L01+PA+LNA can be used in a variety of applications, including wireless communication between sensors, remote control systems, and IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

The 3.3V regulation on an original Arduino board (Uno, Mega or Nano for example) is unfortunately NOT strong enough to supply enough current for the high power transmission (peak current up to 150mA)! Most of our compatible Arduino MEGA and UNO boards have stronger voltage regulation and can supply enough power for the wireless module.

Dimensions: 41 x 15mm
Antenna: 109 x 9.5mm, +2dB
Operating voltage: 3.0 to 3.6V
Data signal level: 3.3V and 5V logic level
Transmission power: max. +21dBm
Transmit mode current: max. 140mA
Receive mode current: max. 45mA
Power-down mode current: typ. 4.2µA

Note: you will need at least 2 modules to make data communication work.

This device and antenna VASTLY outperforms my older nRF24L01s with PCB antennas. Not overly surprising, but I built a little weather station and it’s outside in the garden and sends data back to a receiver in the house every second. With the old nRF with PCB antenna, I have to have it right up against the closest wall and up near the ceiling and it only successfully receives data about once every 15 or 20 tries. With this device and antenna, it was still laying flat on the dining room table and was showing valid data received every second.

One thing I did notice, though, is that this version of the nRF24L01 seems to be more sensitive to noisy power – if you’re having trouble with it working sometimes and then suddenly not responding or sending strange results, make sure the 3.3V power pin is getting nice smooth power with no sags or ripple.

Great performer, price is hard to beat, but make sure your 3.3V power supply is nice and clean!
