This voltage regulator DIY soldering kit is a very simple little project. It is designed for AC or DC input voltage, which separates it from other voltage regulators only made for DC voltage.
The input voltage must be at least 3V higher than the output voltage, but not higher than 17V AC or 25V DC.
Please do your math (Ohm’s law) and make sure your power dissipation is not exceeding 5W to avoid overheating. The LM317 chip comes with internal short-circuit protection and thermal overload protection but overheating or a short on the output will turn the output voltage off.
Included in this kit is a combination of resistors to allow adjustment of the output voltage in a range of 1.25V DC to 12V DC. A wider range can be achieved by replacing these resistors. Please refer to the LM317 datasheet to find out how to calculate them.
